Annemiek Van Vleuten (Movistar Team) repeats triumph in Navarra

Lekunberri, May 13, 2021. Annemiek Van Vleuten (Movistar Team) has been the winner of the first of the two races held in Navarra, corresponding to the Womens Elite Classics 2021, starting from the Hotel Ibaisek (Zudaire) and Arrival in Lekunberri, after 128.3 kilometers traveled. Second was Demi Vollering (Team SD Worx) and third, Elisa Longo (Trek – Segafredo)

The best female professional cycling in the world has returned to Navarra for the third consecutive year and Van Vleuten has also done so proving to be the best. It should be remembered that the Dutch cyclist was the winner last year in the two classics also held in Navarra.

28 teams and 158 runners started this afternoon from the Hotel Ibaisek in Zudaire to tackle eight mountain positions, six in the third category and two in the second category, on a demanding day due to the route and the rain that has not stopped falling along throughout the entire stage.

The peloton stretched and shrunk as the kilometers passed until, finally, after so much swinging, there was a cut with sixty runners in the lead. More kilometers, more ports and more cuts with small groups that were taking advantage.

At the last climb of the race, the port of Muguiro, Van Vleuten, Vollering, Longo, Moolman-Pasio, Cavalli and Harvey were alone at the head of the test. It was the last kilometers of the day and, at that moment, Van Vleuten (Movistar Team) forced the rhythm of the break to leave alone and reach the Lekunberri goal first. Of course, the other five riders have crossed the finish line brushing against the wheel.
